STRAT
Hi troopers Adobe have done what they did with Photoshop - they've release a lite version of Premier. http://www.adobe.com/products/premiereel/main.html Premier Pro costs $700 and Premier Elements only costs $99. Now photoshop elements is a fantastic peice of software, and to most users it's virtually identical to it's big brother, at only a fraction of the cost. I've obviously read the reviews, but has anyone actually used Premier Elements? is it actually as good as it sounds? all i basically want is basic video editing and frame compiling from my max sequential images. whats the general gen boys and girls? up until now my current employer has been reluctant to splash out on the full version, but is this worth the money or am i better off splashing out on an alternative maybe? bully712
Hi Strat.. I'm pretty much in the same position as you are. I'm getting a new workstation in about a month or two, and I was asked what software I will be needing. I recommended Premiere since that it's what I used to produce my demo tape from college. My employer was also reluctant when it came to the cost of the full version. Just last week they mentioned to me about Premiere Elements. I read up on it, and it also sounds good to me since the main purpose of wanting it was for compiling frames into an Avi, and also for adding transitions between smaller animations. I'm also curious of what others think. Reqarding PSE... I use PS6 in my office, and I'm pretty descent at it. We also have PSE. It drives me crazy when someone has a question reqarding PS in the office, and they are using Elements. There's alot of things in different places, and It feels like I never knew PS. I'n my opinion, I try to stay away from PSE. For a biginner, PSE would be fine. I guess once you get adapted to it.....it's fine. you're not just getting everything you get with regular PS. Back to Premiere Elements. Above you see my opinions with PS, and PSE. I'm wondering if Premiere, and Premiere Elements will differ (in my opinion) as well... Well Cost wise I know it will because it's a big difference, but how much are they going to hack away at it? I'm looking forward to hearing back from users of Premiere Elements.. STRAT
well i spoke to an Adobe salesman over the phone, and he told me that Premier Elements can only import video at dv size (ie, about 720x576 or something) and only that. he said you can out put video to any format at any size, but importing is size specific. obviously geared up to home movie makers. so useless for my needs then

I have purchaed and tried Adobe Premier Elements. It has got tons and tons of features and it is easy to use, but it is TOO DAMN SLOW in rendering. It took 50 minutes just to render 1 minute into DV with a 3.0 GH PC and 1 GB ram. I am realy disappointed. ( it took Pinnacle Studio 9 only 3 minutes to render). Brent Bily
yeme, I just read a review at pcworld which may address your problem. http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,118574,00.asp "Video-editing applications are notoriously finicky, and I ran into all sorts of problems with these two programs. For example, Premiere Elements labored when trying to process DV files until I updated my graphics card driver (then it worked fine)." Hope that helps. Let us know.
