Hey everyone,

This is a WIP (unless I get good feedback - :D). This is my first attempt at a home rendering. All crits are welcome.....let me know what I can improve on or highlight what you feel was done good. Like I said, this is my first house rendering and want to know how I can improve my work.

A quick note, it is not rendered in hi-res yet....this was a test render.

Thanks :)

The most glaringly obvious thing is the mirror-like windows.

Turn down that reflection channel!

I'd also try for more contrast; your ambient light is a bit strong.

Design-wise, the timber feature on the front gable looks very big. Is that modelled correctly?

Looking good for a first attempt.

vcrupi,

ic is ryt, the windows are too reflective. make a little interior view visible. also, the house seems to be out of perspective. if you analyze it, your view of the house seems to be looking upwards, seems like its in worm's eye view mode. however, the background is in normal man's eye view. that's why in my opinion, the left side of the pic seems weird. that's all.

hey, like your texturing though. thats ALL!!!! :D

Thanks for your crits......the timber feature is modelled correctly as per architects specs and CAD drawings, I had the windows so mirrored because if haven't modelled the interior of the house and didn't want to show in inside. :)

Not sure what u mean about going for more contrast....there is one directional light setup in the scene along with a skylight.

ok.....i broghut down the reflections in the windows, changed the cam view a little, and tried for a little more contrast in the image by lowering the skylight intensity.

How's it now....anything else I should do or change?

You don't have to have reflection OR transparency.

A combination works better.

In most cases you can't see much inside a house on a sunny day so just allow a little transparency and a little reflection (see attached)

What I meant by ambient light is the overall 'lightness' of an image. Dark areas next to light are good for realism. This is contrast.

You can easily improve an image like yours in post by altering the contrast or the saturation levels.

In the second pass, the house is looking better, and as kicks said, the environment is very bright, and overly saturated. The yellow flowers in front of he camera take away more from the rendering than add. The driveway seems very flat, almost painted on to the grass, but with no texture. A difference in height between the two would help.

No one is perfect :) but we can always improve. It's getting better. Look at where your light source is coming from. The bush on the left side is in the shadow of the house. I would make it a little darker in PS. Also add a shadow to the tree on the right. It looks flat without it...
