Tommy L
Just got the Evoluent upright mouse yesterday. Gotta say, I should have bought this thing years ago. If anyone's on the fence, make the jump.

Tommy L
Ive had forearm pain for the last 2 months or so. I thought it was the incessant self-pleasure but it turns out it was the mouse.
Francisco Penaloza
Ive had forearm pain for the last 2 months or so. I thought it was the incessant self-pleasure but it turns out it was the mouse. ha ha ha ha ha ha, come on man....! I had carpal tunnel problems long time ago and since then I use wacom tablet instead of a mouse, for everything. Not only the awkward position that the mouse create in your hand and wrist but also the short constant movement that your fingers do clicking produce all those problems and injuries. try stretching your hands and fingers from time to time or stress balls also help. Tommy L
Yeah I think I was getting a touch of the carpal. I have a giant wacom Intuos 3, great for many things but I dont like it for max. Ive been using a Kensington Trackball which is waaay better than a mouse, I got that when I had shoulder problems. The upright seems to be the winner though. This is the trackball, I thoroughly recommend it: http://www.kensington.com/us/us/4493/K64325RR/expert-mouse%C2%AE#.VCM1DvldV8E Edited September 24, 2014 by Tommy L
heni30
How is it getting used to the buttons (so that it becomes 2nd nature)? I got scared into becoming equally adept at using both hands - now I can switch back and forth with no problems as needed. Easier than you think when motivated. I also started using an Wacom pen, but discontinued after the pain subsided. Thanks for the tip - I think I'll give it a try. Tommy L
Its only my second day, but seems pretty intuitive. My regular mouse is a 2 button mouse, the extra button is nice. Im going to put the trackball on my left and switch out with that. A friend had neck and shoulder problems then switched mouse hands. She says you do everything all day with the same hands, switching the mouse hand full time balances it out. Her problems have gone.
heni30
I do a lot of stuff in Photoshop - trimming merchandise for retail. How is the track ball for creating intricate bezier paths with the pen tool? My daughter is learning PS using a laptop. Of course, because I told her to hook up a mouse she's not going to do it. Is it possible to make complex paths with a laptop touch pad? It seems like your movement area is so small. I take it the Evoluent moves exactly like a mouse. Are there any down sides to it that you foresee? Edited September 25, 2014 by heni30

Are there any down sides to it that you foresee? My wife is like your daughter, she's a web designer and works on a trackpad. I think its crazy, she has carpal, but she wont change. I dont think anything is going to beat the top end Wacoms for PS work, but I found the trackball better than the mouse at everything. I used it a long time though, I cant remember working with a traditional mouse. I dont see any downsides to the Evoluent, but its early days. A friend of mine makes ergonomic grips for tattoo guns http://morphixtattoo.com/kush/ . I think a larger, better designed grip for the wacom stylus would make it a better tool for all day use. I find my digits feel all scrunched up holding a stylus for detail work, especially when youre all tensed up at deadline...
Amen
Hi, I am using the Evoluent too. I am switching between that and my tablet a lot and it is great. At home I have a gamer mouse, but that usually kills my arm after a couple hours of use. What really hurts my am is using the mouse wheel a lot. I can recommend the evoluent to anyone whose carpal tunnel starts acting up.
Stephen Thomas
As a cheaper alternative I got the Anker semi-upright mouse to see whether it would improve things or not. I have to say it's been great so far. I used to get pain across the knuckles after a long day and that has eased off considerably. I'd recommend anyone experiencing similar to make the move to a vertical mouse, much more comfortable. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Wireless-Vertical-Ergonomic-Optical-1600DPI/dp/B00BIFNTMC
Scott Dombrowski
I've been using an Evoluent mouse for a couple of years. There are some fit & finish quality issues with v4 (the chrome has mostly rubbed off on the thumb rest), but it's better than the v3 which had the rubber disengage from the mouse wheel causing it to just spin without actually spinning the wheel. Functionally, it's great and has seriously reduced / eliminated the carpal tunnel pains I was having. Plus, it's kind of a security feature for my workstation. People don't know how to use it, so they don't use my computer when I'm not here.
