Michael J. Brown
I can't get any objects to "Show frozen as gray" like they are supposed to do automatically. I don't know what triggered this behavior in max2014, but I've been just living with it for the past 7 months or so. Even when I go into an object's Object Properties to make sure the "Show frozen as gray" box is checked, it will still freeze to whatever color it already is. I end up having to change the objects color to gray manually, then freezing. Any idea what is going on here?
heni30
I've never experienced this - is the box checked in the "Display" tab (not the object properties). I've found re-installs are not that difficult if you save all your preferences, kb, etc, files. Ironically, computers are not an exact/logical science in practice. Wow. What a name/avatar in light of recent events. Edited September 25, 2014 by heni30
Josef Wienerroither
Are you testing this with base splines by any chance ? I think there is a ( still unfixed ) bug that prevents the spline base object ( not the primitives like circle, rectangle etc..) from being displayed in grey when frozen. It simply is still displayed using the object color ..
Michael J. Brown
That was it, Josef. Works with primitives and shapes, but not splines. The only time I use it is for AutoCAD linework I've inserted (floor plans).
Michael J. Brown
Wow. What a name/avatar in light of recent events. Yeah, well, it wasn't any easier back when the then head of F.E.M.A. (also Michael Brown) resigned due to the Katrina missteps. But then, it's not too bad when people are thinking of the other Mike Brown (also born same year as me), head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. heni30
Hey, I import ACAD to trace over with every project and it's working (showing in grey) with no problem. Maybe it's some option in the import dialogue box that got checked by mistake. I guess it's a more popular name than I thought. The scary thing is all the military grade weapons the police showed up with. They should send them over to fight ISIS.
Michael J. Brown
Maybe it's some option in the import dialogue box that got checked by mistake. Do your Import settings match these? If not, maybe what you suggest is my problem. Post your settings.
Michael J. Brown
I guess it's a more popular name than I thought. ...So much so that there's actually another Michael Brown on this forum. ...Not to mention another Michael Brown I shared a Junior High class with. ...And yet another Michael J. Brown who worked at the same architecture firm as me a number of years back.
heni30
The only things different are that under layer I scrolled down and picked "1 Layer" and my Xref is unchecked. Well, Jackson would have been cool.

I don't have a "1 Layer" option. But when I use "One Object" instead, all works fine.
heni30
Sorry, I meant 1 object. Great! Now you say: "I feel good!................. tada tada tada taaaa.......... while gliding along on one patent-leather shoe-ed foot. Dejan Sparovec
Even when I go into an object's Object Properties to make sure the "Show frozen as gray" box is checked, it will still freeze to whatever color it already is. I end up having to change the objects color to gray manually, then freezing. Now this is really odd to me because last year I reported a bug in max 2014 that switching OFF show frozen as gray DOESN'T work and that all objects do remain gray after freezing even though I switched the checkbox off. This was also confirmed to me by an admin on "the small annoying things" Autodesk report site: http://3dsmaxfeedback.autodesk.com/forums/76763-small-feature-requests/suggestions/1489539-show-frozen-in-gray#comments
