multiple uvw maps

Hi,

 

I have a building constucted from polygons which I have to apply multiple textures to which all need uvw maps.

 

I am using poly select > apply material > apply uvw etc....

 

Problem is when I apply a new material it aplies it to the whole object even though its in sub-object mode, so I can never apply more than one material because it keeps swapping materials instead of adding.

 

I know this seems odd as I have applied multiple textures and uvws to an object before without any problems, anyone come across this before?

 

any help would be much appreciated.

read the help files about the map channel, and also use mix or blend materials,and remember to assign the mask a different map channel ID. when you apply multiple UVW modifiers, assign each different mask in the material editor and the UVW modifiers different map channel ID.
