V-Ray sun or HDRI?

Hi,

 

I'm unsure whether I should be using V-Ray Sun or HDRI or both to light my scenes. I have previously only used HDRI's but have read different things about which is better. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

 

I mainly do interior scenes.

Whichever looks best.

 

For interiors you can generally comfortably get away with the VRay Sun & Sky and it gives you a lot of edit-ability.

VRay sun seem to be a faster option rendering wise. If you are using an HDRI in a dome light the render times will be much higher. For me personally it depends on the kind of lighting I am going for that dictates which option i use. But I know some really good artists just use dome lights with good HDRIs to light their scenes. I guess there is no better way in this case, just a matter of preference.

you can also use a plane light or a sphere light or a directional light

there are also ies lights
