Is there a way to streamline file merging and get maps/paths right on import?

I'm working on a project that required me to merge in all of the plants, (with maps and textures), from another file.

If I try to merge the file and select the objects I think I want from the list, it leaves me kind of guessing because the files naming conventions aren't that descriptive.

As it is right now the bushes I'm bringing in render pure white and all of the bitmaps needed in the slate material editor are black. Asset manager shows all files and paths as "found"

So I'm confused on how to get this all worked out.

Hoping there's an easy way to bring in what i need without all of the confusion.

Thank You

I use a couple of scripts which might help you out. You can find them over at script spot. First of is batch merge which will let you merge multiple max files at the same time. The other is re-link bitmaps which does pretty much what the bitmap/photometric path utility does but way faster.

One other thing I will point out about missing maps and such: after merging a bunch of stuff it is worth saving the file and re-opening it to get Max to protest about the missing files. If you merge and then hit render, often time you don't know there is a problem until the render as completed.
