Justin Hunt
How do you select all objects on a particular layer/s ? I use this all the time in previous versions but cant work out how to do it in 2015.
Justin Hunt
Worked it out, you have to add the command to a quad menu. Customize->Quads-> Category layers -> Drag "Select Objects in Current Layer" to a quad (I did the default Viewport Quad) I also added "Set Current Layer to Selection's Layer"
Corey Beaulieu
With the layer manager open you can use the "Select Child Node" in the quad to get all objects on that layer.
Justin Hunt
that works if the objects have a hierarchy structure, if not then the objects dont get selected.
Corey Beaulieu
It should. It does for me anyway... The objects are the children of the layer... The layer may need to be collapsed to work properly. I'm not a fan of the new layer manager as I have mentioned in other posts, but this does work. When it doesn't, I have had to go to Tools>Scene Explorer Manager> Delete the Layer Manager profile and relaunch the Layer Manager. But if you found something else that works, my method is not important.
Justin Hunt
it works if you have the "Select Children" (Crtl C ) On, but that also means that every time you click on a different layer then all objects on that layer are selected automatically, which is a PIA. Corey Beaulieu
That is the over arching story of the new manager.... PIA!
zhopudey
I add the layers toolbar for this functionality.
Justin Hunt
so simple I dont know why I didn't try that one, thanks.
Stephen Thomas
Yeah, it's a total pain. How hard would it have been to integrate the add, select and delete buttons from the toolbar into the new layer manager? Instead I find myself jumping between the two all the time. Apart from the nested layers function, a huge waste of time IMO. Unless you're a rigger/animator, in which case you're probably using Maya anyway. rogue3d
Dumb question. How do you select multiple layers in the layer explorer and then select all objects on both layers? The button to "select objects on layer" is located on the layers toolbar, but you can only select one layer in the pull down... I'm sure I'm doing something wrong... Stephen Thomas
Need to use the pop-up layer Explorer rather than the toolbar. Shift+select your layers then right click, select child nodes. Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
