Guest eddie57
When I go to the "Insert" menu and then try and insert a block, in the drop down box there is a list of blocks that are not in my drawing, but I assume they are in the file. How can I get rid of them? I have purged the file, but they are still there in the drop down box. At one time these blocks were in the drawing but i deleted from such. Any help is appreciated. Still learning this program. Thanks in advance, Eddie G. :-)
Onslaught
Try this.... In the command line type: "erase" "all" (this will select everything in your drawing). Then "r" (remove) select all visible entities, then "enter". Then try purging. also remember to turn all layers "on" or "thaw" all layers. hope this helps. Hazdaz
CDG Purge - get it, use it, love it. We had HUGE problems with blocks/layer states/printer configs/etc that we just couldn't get out of our drawings (we actually didn't even know what the problem was until I found this program, but we knew something was wrong with some of our files). Well this great program not only let us see the problem, but remove all that garbage - we had files go from 5+MBs with (20,000!! layer states saved in the file that we got from an architect), down to 1MB. Even if it doesn't solve your particular problem, download it anyways - it will come in handy eventually.
William Alexander
File>Drawing Utilities>Purge Never needed anything beyond that! Cheers WDA
James
Have to agree with Hazdaz. CDG Purge is the way to go. We've installed it on all machines running AutoCAD in our office & seen a dramatic reduction in file sizes, particularly when hundreds of layer states are removed from drawings. Couldn't recommend it enough!

jwisherd
CDG purge and Purge do differnt things, they purge out differnt objects. For removing unrefernced blocks, purge is all you will need. Purge will remove any unrefernced layers, blocks, text styles, dimstyles, linetypes.... CDGpurge will purge out unrefernced layerstates, pagesetups, registered applications. and a few other things that are not normally accessible. post over at the swamp, and they will be able to help you with cdgpurge download. http://theswamp.org/phpBB2/
