larsmosnes
Hi, looking into buying a new graphic card, considering these two. Amd Firepro W5100 or W7000, both 4gb. Mainly use with Civil 3d and 3ds max. Large terrains and architecture aerial renders. They seem very similar, anything to point out? Cheers! Dimitris Tolios
These cards are not that similar: single width, 4GB of RAM, yes, but different generation and different price class. The W7000 should be the faster of the two, although neither should do as good as the Firepro lineage would imply, simply because AutoCAD & 3DS don't really care for workstation cards. No performance drivers = no real advantage over gaming cards of the same generation. Again the W7000 will be faster because it is a "stronger" and more expensive GPU, but any R9 Radeon should be faster (despite being cheaper) than both. The W5100 improves slightly over the W5000, but the W7100 should be considerably better than the W7000. If I was to spend $600+ for the W7000, I might as well spend the $800 for the W7100, but I would do so only if I knew I would be exploiting an obvious advantage over a much cheaper GPU. So if you have to buy a Firepro and want to stay away from a Radeon (or GTX for that matter), I would get the cheaper W5100.
