Many questions - looking to start a conversation!

Hi everybody,

I'm a long-time-lurker of these forums and an admirer of many of you and your work. I took the plunge and registered as I've been working in Archviz for six months now with a handful of clients.

It would be useful for me to start a conversation and to ask, or re-ask some questions;

- What are you looking forward to this new-year in terms of the industry/software etc...?

Personally, I am spending some of my free time learning UE4 with the aim of producing real-time work; also to indulge my interest in gaming/3D modelling/animation etc... and VR.

- How are you getting on with attracting clients this time of year?

Having had mediocre experiences with freelance websites in the past (not with Archviz, but with animation work) I am building my CRM and hoping to be passed along to colleagues of my recent clients. I'm planning my approach - does anyone have any helpful hints?

- What helpful habits have you picked up or what habits is it vital to avoid?

For example, I never used to write anything down because I thought I could "keep it all in my head." Yes, I was young and naive. Now I write EVERYTHING down, whether in spreadsheets or having a notepad by my bed to scribble midnight inspiration. I don't go anywhere without a pen & paper.

Habit to avoid? Late nights. I now force myself to stop working at 10pm latest. This was hard, but my state of mind and quality of work has improved greatly!

Thoughts?

Marc

Managing expectations (both your own and your client's) while creating boundaries between your work/home life are quite important, especially if you work from home.

I only freelance on the side, as I'm a full-time intern architect at a firm, so managing my time is very important so that I don't burn out. But I can't help getting excited about learning new things and experimenting sometimes... UE4 looks fun!

Here in Brazil we are living a explosion on the construction and architectural field, 2014 was a good year, 2015 looks promising too.

Talking about Software im really interesting in real time / interactive visualization, i'm working lately with Unity 3d, it is a great tool.

But im really interested in the Market in Canada, since i hope to move there by the end of this year.

This year I want to launch my small viz studio with a close friend. We are almost there! I want to use octane render for all my work so i'm eagerly awaiting Octane cloud. I don't really plan on going real-time (ue4-style) but I'm playing with it for fun and keeping an eye on it. I would also like to see more GPU render farms!!!

I never want to have to rely on freelance jobs sites. We are based in Montreal, there are a tons of architect firms, designers, property developpers, etc. I'll just take the phone or email them and propose our services. We're gonna have a nice site, showing our best work. We want to focus on high end photo-real renderings. Basically the Juraj of North America, nothing less!!! lol. We can take our time and do what we really want because my partner and I already got careers so money isn't that much of a concern in the short term. I just hope to eventually live off of that profession.

1. are these 24 threads have the same power regardless of the processor?

2. If "no", what are the differences?

Another question not related to the topic above-

1. Why should not I build a dual xeon 2670 v3 processor instead of six i7 4790 if I intend render nodes while both have 48 threads?
