benjaminvelure
I'm quite new to rendering an tying to figure out how to get a decent output without ridiculous render times. But the many settings are a bit overwhelming. Would appreciate a lot if you could take a look at my settings and give some input on which parameters might be overkill. My output is 3000 wide. It seems like my render time increased dramatically when I introduced materials with strong(but not very complex i think) displament maps.
ryannelson
It's really important to understand the fundamentals of how all the parameters work together. There's no "one size fits all" approach to rendering. The Grant Warwick Mastering Vray sessions are AWESOME. Displacement maps will always kill your render time. If you can avoid them with more modelling or using bump, it would be advisable.
Scott Schroeder
Detail enhancement will kill your render times and is generally not necessary anymore. As mentioned, displacement maps always add to render times. Especially if the mesh you are displacing is has very poor edge flows. Displacement maps tend to work better on nice clean geometry. Detail enhancement + displacement = really really long render times.
ryannelson
Looks like your AA sample threshold is way too low, you're probably sampling at 100% subdivisions everywhere. Untick "use DMC sampler thresh" and set your clr threshold to around 0.02 and see what that does. You could probably bump up your max AA subdivs too. Turn on Sample Rate in your VFB channels too so you can see what's going on.
