going the render node rute...

Recommended Posts

Hi:

Looking to speed up my workflow, i'm thinking this time i will buy a couple of dedicated render nodes instead of upgrading my worstation, always done that and ended up with my older machine sitting side of me and never used again because is half slower to render, so this time, i'm going the render node route!!

This is what i'm thinking of:

MoBo: asrock X99M extreme4

CPU: i7 5820K (3.3ghz) 6 cores

Cooling: corsair hydro series h60

Ram: crucial dimm 16GB DDR4-2400 (ballistix sport) 2x8gb

Power: corsair VS550

Case: cooler master N200 N1

SSD: crucial M550 128gb

graphic card: the cheaper possible

The Items are chosen based in a single shop dipsonibility, and looking to adjust the price at 1000€, sugestions accepted to change any particular item, but my main concern is to check with you if i shoud choose this processor or other.

The 16 GB ram is also for keeping the budget, i can upgrade later if needed.

I could buy a couple of these machines (probably first will try only one) so silence, efficiency and size are also important, first i tought on the helmer cabinet from Ikea, in witch many people have mounted 6 nodes (one per drawer) but then i thougth noise, dirt, temperature ... so i ended up with the idea os simply using small cases, and so also could add my older machines (2) in case of animation emergency.

My goal is to only have to phisicaly start the pc and then control everything remotely in my WS.

So, witch is the best setup, both hardware and especially software i should use for this.

My software is 3d max-Vray and i would love to do every render through the node, but wondering if this is practicall for test renders, i guess sending the jobs, saving the image, open it to see it is not faster than quick dirty region test during workflow. Is there any automated software setup that allows us to see the real time rendering of the node but in the WS monitor?

Ok, sorry my long text and hope everything makes some sense.

Thanks in advance

Pablo

As long as its connected to the network and/or internet you can use VNC viewer, Teamviewer or a million others to view the render on other computer, the same way you'd be controlling it..

Or just set it up for Distributed rendering so it is still rendering on your computer.
