TomD_Arch
I'm just new to messing around with animations in 3ds Max and have a simple scene setup. A camera pointing straight up at the sky between two buildings, as the scene animates the camera moves upward and rotates slowly. I noticed however, the IBL sky I have placed in the scene is locked into the frame so it is not rotating with the environment as it should appear to. The sky is placed as ENVIRON and is Mapping: SCREEN. Does anyone have a tip, suggestion, explanation to help me?
3danim8d
Thomas, Depending on your IBL image, change the mapping from Screen ( which locks the image to the background as you are seeing ) to one of the other three options. Also, it would be much better to post software specific questions in the Software section, not General Discussions. Jeff
TomD_Arch
So I tried switching to SPHERICAL ENVIRONMENT with the .jpg I was using and a 360-degree sky and I am still having an issue. There is now a point in the center of the animation that the top edge of both images wrap around and then splay out from. Regarding posting this in a different section, I agree it could have gone to a software specific section. However, based on the other topics in this section I didn't think it was off base to post here, so I apologize if it was. And, if a moderator would like to move it, please do. Nicolai Bongard
If you have set the mapping to screen, then the image will stay static even though the camera is moving. Make sure you have a spherical/360 background texture and set the mapping type to spherical. Also, when changing texture options/values, make sure that you do NOT have autokey enabled, unless you are sure that you want to animate options/values of textures. It sounds like this might have happened, so try to create your background/sky setup from scratch.
Stephen Thomas
Map a matching sky image to a plane, that way you can add some subtle sideways movement of the clouds too. Much easier to setup and control.
TomD_Arch
@Nicolai- Yes this worked, I thought I tried this with another image that was a 360 degree sky, but i had loaded the wrong one when I went back and looked. And thank you for the advice on the autokey! @Stephen- I tried this approach as well , however the quality of the rendering became grainy. I'm sure it is due to lighting calcs., but I didn't investigate further once I saw that the image was grainy.
