Jon Berntsen
Hi Anyone used SynthEyes with success? I have a real hard time figuring out how to track and import trackers correctly into max. Footage is tracked, I try to set up the coordinate system, import the script, so far the process seems right. Then it comes clear that 1) the trackers are not sitting as they should, and 2) the horizon is always skewed, making a HUGE mismatch between the 3d objects and the footage. Also in one drone footage that I have, the FOV is calculated to 1.something. How in the world could I transfer this parameter to vrayphyscam to make it look right? I have watched the tutorials, and tried to read the (500 pages long) manual, but I am still a bit lost. Ideas and experiences accepted with a huge welcome! Jon Berntsen
Ok so I solved the first obstacle, where the tracking gave me a very low FOV. I solved it with calculating distortion in SynthEyes and exporting to aftereffects, where I used the SynthEyes distortion plugin with the applied amount of distortion that SynthEyes calculated for me. Then I bounced the footage from AfterEffects and took it back into SynthEyes for a new tracking. Then it seems to be working better. So the next step is to figure out how to get the correct scene scale, as I am trying to match this with a physically accurate model.
Jon Berntsen
Aaand I also solved the scaling. I just found it hard to work with generic units, and transferring it to mm in max. I needed to set up a distance constraint between two points. I did that at first as well, but the distance constraint had a huge error number, which I had to fix. Devin Johnston
I tried to use Syntheyes several years ago and never could get anything good out of it so I switched to Boujou which is a dream to work with. I'm glad to see you've had success with it, maybe I should consider taking a look at it again.
Corey Beaulieu
I've never used Synth Eyes, but Nuke, PFTrack, and Bijou are all tools that I/we have used successfully without much if any hassle. AE can even track footage at a more basic level.
MikeGentile
yep...it's pretty simple. since my units are in inches in max i plug inches into syntheyses. i usually get a great result with a 4 or so constrained points i sometimes use a trimple survey unit to get accurate measurments in the field. here's some of my examples https://vimeo.com/81449355
