David Turner
Does anyone have a policy/fee structure for rush jobs? Typically I write in my proposals that I require a 7-10 business days for completing any rendering assignment. But lately clients (mostly architects) by the time they have a final design determined say that they need the final rendering within 2-3 days. I am considering including a "rush fee" in my proposals now. Any thoughts? Thanks. -DT
Francisco Penaloza
In Theory you have all the right to charge for rush or exclusivity fees. But honestly to me it all depends of the client and if I have other projects running at the same time. If I have other project running and this one come in top with a rush deadline, I talk with both clients and I explain that I need to push back someone else to do his project and that will require some sacrifices, one will be money the other one, how picky or how many changes he will be able to do. If I know the client won't pay more no matter what, I explain that he won't be able to do crazy changes just because there is no time, that way, it does not hurt you much to do that crazy project. But if it require for you to work weekends and extra nights, well it is up to you how much your personal life time cost. to me, there is an extra price for that. some clients understand others don't. If you go straight forward with an extra charge, they all react bad for sure, but if you explain first, what that tight deadline means to you, and because of that you need to be sure it is worth for both of them, most of the clients agree with an extra fee. howelaw1
The architects may be asking that because it is not uncommon for studios to complete a render in 2-3 business days. In fact I would say it is the norm
harryhirsch
yep, thats like it is...''work weekends and extra nights'' the whole construction business is like that, architects work like that to make the deadline tha twas defined by the client. We all face the same issue, take the job (and charge more if u can)...or say no and someone else will get the job. Love it or leve it. Like H Law said, most render firms can finish 2-3 pictures in 3 days. If the architect has to finish the entire design project in 7 days then it is clear why the archiviz firm ends up with a ''here, 2 days do what u can''. I would charge more for obvious reasons (you have to postpone other work, lack of sleep or u have to hire someone)...I would say 30-50% more for a 1-2days job sounds reasonable , once we added 100% for a days job (overnight job).
