shirleyyau
Hi, I am new to V-Ray and 3DSMax and I know that there's something wrong with my settings. My renders are coming out overly pixelated and overexposed and I don't even know why.. I have used one VRayLight by the window and I am using 3DSMax 2015... I have also tried lowering my noise threshold and have changed the subdivs on my materials and VRayLight to 30 or more. I just can't figure out why. I've attached some images of my settings and stuff. Please help! I have been stuck on this for 2 weeks and I could cry right now
Francisco Penaloza
All what you need to do is make some coffee or nice tea and give a good read to the manual or help online for V Ray rendering. Your problem is exposure. Do not start clicking buttons and see what they do because you'll get lost very quikly that way. you need to understand what it is V-Ray, what it does and how it does it. Cheers. You can read one of this ones too. http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/show/9413/making-of-modern-bathroom

shirleyyau
Hey, thanks for the info but I've taken a look at the link you have sent but it doesn't really do much help :/ I found the reason for the overexposure (I accidentally deleted a wall). I've tried re-rendering it and have found some vray tutorials online but none of them help. Is it something wrong with my settings?
Bruce Hart
Hey Shirley Are you rendering this scene with a Vray Camera? You need to use one for the image to be exposed properly. If using a standard 3DS camera, hit 8 on the keyboard to bring up the Environment Dialog. Go to the Exposure dropdown and enable Vray exposure. Corey Beaulieu
Your settings are all over the place. I have no idea where you got your info, but part of it is running WAY High and part of it is running WAY LOW and then you are ruining both of those factors with your noise threshold and your Min/Max settings. Wen you don't know exactly what you are doing you are best to let it alone. Until you understand more about the settings, I would recommend the quick settings that are built into Vray 3.0. It is the fourth icon down on the left side of your viewport. I find that Universal settings have been very solid when you are unsure and even when you are, they can get more things right with a really soft noise albeit an apparent noise. Even Vlado uses the universal method more than not. For low edge-detail images you can raise your Minimum Shading rate to speed things up and for highly detailed you can lower it to 1.0. shirleyyau
Hi, sorry, I am very new to this. Bruce, I am now using a VRay Camera and that's really helped a lot. Thanks! And Corey, thanks for the help. I'm currently rendering and it seems to be going well right now from what I can see. If it doesn't then I will use the Universal settings. I also found another thread in this forum which has really helped. I've gotten rid of the white dots now (which was the my main concern), I had to go back to my materials and uncheck tracings for reflections and refractions for each material (apart from the glass)... Also the "Only for GI" option, I changed to "Always" and that seemed to have done the trick.
Corey Beaulieu
I'm glad your problem is solved. Just to be clear though, that was not your problem. That is the workaround for now. You should take some time and look into more proper solutions. Read; our settings.
shirleyyau
Thanks, I will do. I'm just working for a very tight deadline right now, so whatever works will do for now. After this deadline I have all summer to learn 3DS properly I really appreciate all the help!
