heni30
Client wants Sketchup renderings and I NEVER use SU. I know I can export to SU for the finals but I was just curious - is there a way to get a shaded edged type style like this in Max using the scanline renderer? (Don't use MR either) Edited April 30, 2015 by heni30
Scott Schroeder
You can do the default max ink and paint shader with a white self-illuminated diffuse material and then multiply in Photoshop over your base render if you don't want to re-do all of your materials. Though, to be honest, the MR contour shader is infinity better and faster than the max ink and paint one. It would be the same deal, white self illuminated diffuse with black contour lines and multiply in photoshop over the base render. You can keep it all in MR (or Vray for that matter) by simply using the MR contour or Vray toon shader. Shoot, just to make it even easier, run your base render though this app (http://www.fotosketcher.com/) and play with the various settings for pencil/edges. heni30
Yep - did the trick; thanks. Stayed in Vray; I just turned off GI, shadows and reflections. If he want's it funkier I'll give Fotosketcher a try. Edited May 2, 2015 by heni30
Morne Erasmus
Since you're using VRay, here's some more related tricks you could try on the next one: http://mornestudio.com/render-3d-objects-as-2d-billboards-vraytoon-simple/ This will work on any 3D object, not just people

artmaknev
Why even render? Just use viewport options (ink color or acrylic can give similar results like vray + toon render or sketchup look) http://docs.autodesk.com/3DSMAX/15/ENU/3ds-Max-Help/index.html?url=files/GUID-BB6A75F2-67DA-4726-AED4-C44A10F1C8BD.htm,topicNumber=d30e569466 Just turn off shadows in the configuration. heni30
Yeah, I forgot about those. More than one way to skin a cat (gotta make sure my daughter doesn't read this). But rendering is ridiculously fast with gi, shadows and reflections turned off. Also I don't know how much control viewport options offer.
