fernandopires
I wanto to buy a renderfarm the gool is to make 1 a 2 minutes of HD video, in 3dsmax+vray , in two or tree weeks , can somebody tell me the minimum of cores to do that . Thank you,
Dimitris Tolios
Depends on the rendering time for each of your frames. If the scene(s) is/are ready for production, could you give us the rendering time on a workstation with a known configuration? Once you have that, you can extrapolate that to the number of the machines/cores that would do what you want in the timeframe you need, or tweak your settings down to make the job fit in the budget you can afford. fernandopires
Thank you , i have made just rigth now the test , and each frame take 60 minutes whit the 1920x1080 res. In my Workstation whit a dual XEON E5420 2.50 (8 cpus) , Quadro FX1700, 12 GB ECC 1033. The idea is to make a 1 minute o animation in 15 or 20 days . Dimitris Tolios
Ok. So a methodology to approach this could be: 1. Your scene will be 1 minute. Assume 24 fps. So you will have a total of 1 min * (60 sec / min) * 24 fps = 1440 frames. 2. Your current rig needs 1 hour per frame, so in theory would require 1440 hours for 1440 frames. 1440 hours = 60 days, so an approach would be that you would need a total of 3 machines like yours to do it in 20 days or 4 do do it in 15 days - assuming there is no post production. Now, you have a pretty old machine. E5420 is a circa 2007 CPU, with a Cinebench R15 score of around 270. You have 2x of those, so assume total CB R15 score of 540. Modern CPUs are much faster, so if you were to buy systems based on newer architecture (and higher clock) CPUs, you could achieve much higher scores (and effective speed) than your current system, doing the same thing with less CPUs or doing it much faster with the same # of CPUs. Typical CB R15 scores: i7-5960X ~ 1340 pt i7-5820K ~ 1025 pt i7-4790K ~ 890 pt So, should it was a "linear" relationship, you could expect a single 5960X to do what you want in your time-frame, but you would be pushing it, having the same rendering power as roughly 2.5x systems like the one you have now (I think it will actually be faster than that). To make sure I would say, 2x 5960X or 3x 5820K based rigs would cut through your task. I would dare to say that you should also think retiring your current rig. Nikolaos M
Typical CB R15 scores: i7-5960X ~ 1340 pt i7-5820K ~ 1025 pt i7-4790K ~ 890 pt And these are CB scores at stock speeds. A 5960X @4.4 would aprox. give over 1700cb and a 5820K over 1250cb. So, with a generous oc of a 5960X he could complete the task.
