Ky Lane
Hi guys, I have a shape drawn as a spline (its the outline of a leaf) but my friend wants me to extrude it so that its section is circular, not like a box. Any advice? Thanks
Francisco Penaloza
extrude, add extra edges in the side faces(perimeter). then move the new edges close to the corners and apply smooth modifier. You can also intead of creating new edges ,just chamfer. Then you can adjust the thickness of the leaf. Needles to say, Leaf usually are modeled as single face element, unless it is a extreme close up. Otherwise a correct shader will be very hard to setup, such translucency or sss. matthewgriswold
If I understand you correctly, I think the Shell modifier with a custom bevel profile would do the trick.
Ky Lane
Thanks guys - not looking for a realistic leaf look. Its for a stylised logo. Tried the shell mod thanks Matt - but it leaves the top surface flat, and where it gets skinny it goes nuts... Im thinking Ill just have to spend the time and multi loft it. Nic H
i reckon you would be able to do a good job of this with poly modelling keep it rough shape wise then add a turbosmooth while add in edges and loops while you pull up the middle vertices to make it rounded. you can snap to a reference sphere mesh to ensure its as equally rounded
