jamisonlb
Im needing to create some board formed concrete and having an issue with the vray displacement map rendering out the strait lines with a wiggle or jaggedness to them. Any idea how to correct this or another way to do it without modeling it. Ive attached an example image but the one i need to produce has a bit larger seams and they want them to protrude about .5 inches. Thanks
martinhoura
do you really need displacement for it? i reckon bump would be good enough also make sure that you map is hires and blur it a little
Chris MacDonald
Displacement works by subdividing the original mesh into smaller and smaller triangles, and then moving them along their normal based on the displacement map. The jagged edges you can see are the sub-triangles; you can control how visible these are/aren't by using the "edge length" setting; I wouldn't advise going below 1 pixel. Given how simple your displacement map is, I don't know why you don't just model the grooves?
jamisonlb
I need it to protrude at least .5 inches with close up views bump does not accomplish this. Also this is a large complicated building and has a very specific pattern of joints so modeling them around the building would take a really long time. I'll try the edge length thanks.
