Same texture can be applied to some objects, but on some it just won't render

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I am having problems regarding textures. I create texture, choose bitmap for diffuse and bump and in the preview of materials it looks good. It can be applied and rendered, as well as be seen in viewport on some objects, but all the recently created objects ( primitives and polies) just wont adopt it. They change the surface color to similar to the one of the bitmap picture, but there is no texture on them. What coild be the solution? Keep in mind, that the same material is still good on older objects.

Thanks in advance,

J

I did, but nothing changed. To be honest with you, I don't have much of understanding how do they work. After some reading I assumed that it might be the problem, because many are having similar problems and most often they have something to do with UV maps. I clicked on the object, selected UV maps modifier and applied it. Guess it's wrong. And still, why do some objects have this material, but some dont?

Yeah, sounds like a mapping issue almost certainly. There is no obvious relationship between a texture and an object. Mapping basically says "how big and at what angle should I stick this picture on this object". Back in the old days it used to be "just cover the object with the whole map, once". But things have changed.

If in 3ds Max, quite possibly a mismatch between "real world coordinates" and not. The easiest way to get everything working is to make sure all your objects have "real world" texture coordinates turned on. Do this either at the object creation level or slap on a UVW Map (and probably set to "box") and turn it on there. Then make sure all your maps in your materials have it turned on. THEN make sure that the size makes sense for the appearance of the map.
