great set of NY renderings: The Boundary

Recommended Posts

These renderings are fantastic. They use the cools very heavily and that is pleasing, but maybe a bit too much. In doing that, they have not over-warmed the visible interiors. The interior views are very low-saturation, which seems to be 'the thing' right now. Still, works:

The architecture is also exceptional. The stated goal of simplicity and calm is realized expertly.

I prefer the way the renderings are shown here, not butt-glazed to each-other:

A few things I might do differently here.

First, It would be better to figure out what was being built across the avenue. Showing the construction site takes away from the feeling of a complete scene. It's usua;;y possible to find renderings of buildings under construction in NY, though it sometimes takes a lot of digging. The construction bridge and netting just create dark, uninviting parts to the picture.

Then, there is the central street paint stripe. As with the construction, it looks like in reality, but the stripe is very strong and seems to be on a different vanishing point from the subject building. Since we are seeing an elevational view, the recessed entry is important for inviting the viewer in. That stripe overpowers the more subtle perspective lines of the entry. I would have painted it out or at least minimized it.

I don't mean to be negative, just evaluating a great image for areas where it could be evn better (in my opinion).

They're a perfect compliment to Ando's serene minimalist architecture but I think your average marketing outfit would want a little more pizazz to generate excitement about the units.

They are exquisite but precariously teetering on the edge of banal. Like the exterior shot of one of the upper corner units through the window; many lay people would find that kind of bare and plain. But, hey, if that what was asked for..................

I also think cool is cool.
