Elliot
Gigl, Did you connect the additional power cord on the back of the Quadro 1100? Elliot
gigl
Yes Elliot , and if its a power problem could you recomend what power supply is better for my pc? Thanks
Tim Nelson
Sounds like more of a driver or compatibility problem. I bought a fx 1100 and tried using it in my old machine that was a MSI k7d with a dual athlon mp, and could never get it to work right. It would always crash & lock up on me. The only thing that sort of solved it was to switch down to 2x agp settings in bios. I built another computer a while ago and switched the 1100 into it and haven't had any problems at all. So all I know is that it can be tricky finding the problem with the card & don't give up until you find something that works.
Elliot
Gigl, I am out of ideas. In my case it was that I forgot to connect the external power cable. However, I was getting a message that said "connect power" or some othe silly thing. I started with a big power sipply like 550 watts. I think if you have a 500 watts PS that should be enough. Tiamtron may be right, it may just matter of drivers. Elliot
ChrisE
if its saying to "connect power" and you already have done it then its probley due to a cheap power supply. i would have to assume that if its not working with a 500 or 550watt, that they are cheap ones. a good 400+watt one should be fine. bigcahunak
The AMD MPX chipset is known to have issues with some Vid cards, especially from the quadro family. Had a similar problem with a tyan tiger dual MP board and a quadro 2. Its not a power issue. Did you check bios updates?
Elliot
Hello, I am using the Quadro on a Tyan Motherboard S2885 with Dual Opteron 250.... it works great...! Elliot
gigl
Hello Im using latest bios update and my old card was a quadro xgl 750 it works fine anyway i think my last chance may be /Enermax EG701AX-SFMA 600W/
Tim Nelson
I really don't think its a power problem. I only have a 500w ps with dual processors and I have had no problems at all.
bigcahunak
Elliot your Opteron mobo isnt MPX chipset based. The Opteron mobos are modern and most likely have no such problems. The AMD MPX chipset had lots of issues (I'm talking about the one used by gigl), among those issues are the vid card compatibility, usb bug and probably others as well. plastic
the quadro 1100 doesn't seem to work with dual athlon boards. i had the same problem using a MSI k7d-master.
Elliot
Itzik, Thanks for the explanation. I thought they where similar. So an MPX is really related only to the regular AMD's. I don't know too much about these things. However, I know this machine is the fastest I have had and also the most stable. There is a few programs that do not work on it. One of them is the Nikon Capture Software.... Thanks ELliot
DelfoZ
if u think the power supply is the problem, discconect all ur hdd and ur DVD/CD , remove ur lan cards or audio cards, restart and look if the problem still there. if the problem still there, isnt the power supply.. i had the same problems some days ago... but when the video card can't run, u can't move the mouse or seen the screen...just the pc turn off cuz the Cpu had no energy.. dimopoulos_d
Does the task manager at the performance tab show 10-40% usage when you are actually doing nothing? if that's the case, it happened to me a while ago, and I couldnt do anything about it until i formated and reinstalled windows. I can only suspect that the problem was either a virus ( i couldnt find the process that was using cpu though), or a problem with the wacom tablet drivers (do u have a wacom?) or a prolblem with some usb device. Try disconnect as many usb devices you can and restart.
gigl
Hi Im not using the tablet and task manager shows everithing right , but in other single amd based machine with 400w we have the same sittuation

alex3d
it sound to me like a proscesor overhead, even a bad contact. old socket proscesor use to do that, just freeze the mouse and nothing work. try removing the proscesors, use a godddd conductor material, godd fans, even a cuople of case fans more. krazatchu
u said it was a new quadro card? if not.... it might be that the video card is overheating... Ive never seen this cause the mouse to move slow but it will certainly lock up the system and also cause reboots... if its a used card, check for dirt on the cards heatsink and check if the fan is spinning... sometiems even a little dirt on the heatsink will cause overheating.... had this happen too me many times with a few different cards... south korea's air is quite dirty and it seems to end up on the heatsink pretty fast.... just a thought, l8r krazatchu
