Chris MacDonald
Working on my first project in 2016, anybody else experiencing exceptionally long load times? It's only a small file too, circa 5mb. I assume there's something weird in the file, unless you all testify otherwise.
michaelholzinger
are many textures used in your scene and are these textures lying on a network volume?
Chris MacDonald
Yeah, but no more than usual; less in fact.
michaelholzinger
i have the same problem with 3dsmaxx and loading times... what happens if you replace all the materials with just one standard material without any maps - are then the loading times better? Coolhand78
i'm finding max 2016 just incredibly slow all around... upgraded from 2014 last week and it can be painful at times... from file loading times to moving around and between viewports... Josef Wienerroither
There is a serious bug with groups in Max 2016 - can you check your slowdowns if NO groups are in the scene ?
simonm
nop mine is fine.... There is a serious bug with groups in Max 2016 - can you check your slowdowns if NO groups are in the scene ?
Josef Wienerroither
nop mine is fine.... There is one, but you might not have noticed it. Create 1000 instanced teapots, create a group from them. Now select/ deselect that group several times in sequence -> see Max 2016 stalling
Jason Luckett
How many bugs does this release have??? The groups one is shocking, the layer dialogue boxes is still cack, try copying rhino 3dsmax, a child can use that! Maybe some basic improvements in modelling would be useful such as rotate by reference, copy and paste, extrude by snapping, basic stuff done so much better in other programs. Don't get me started on VrayRT and activeshade, what a shambles. The new physical camera is at best moronic, try selecting cameras, yes this is with a quadro k6000. Sort out viewport clipping and zooming in perspective, that ain't difficult. What about better material displays whilst we're at it, talk about counter intuitive and cumbersome ! Sort out the grids so they don't disappear by default in perspective mode. The list is endless, Max is a great problem but with a hell of a lot of handicaps. Josef Wienerroither
Max 2016 is a pretty stable, performant release. The camera selecting problem is a known bug with hardware picking AFAIK Generally speaking: your post hints that you really hate Max, never a good way to work with a package ;-)
Devin Johnston
Never use the first release of Max in production, you need to wait until at least the first service pack is released or your just asking for problems.
