Ernest Burden III
I like using scaled procedural noise for grass. While it lack 'blades' it never tiles and gives a more pleasing end result than most maps would. There is how a field of grass looks, literally, and how you imagine it looks. Hit the second and you have a better picture.
Frosty
Ernest, could you do one up in Cinema to share?

Ernest Burden III
I'll nick anything me. Put it down-I nick it! That's what we call here in the US the old five-fingered discount. Yes, I can try rendering out a grass using just noise. Strat, you have a point, and I always operate on opinion, with which you often dis-agree. But look at how painters render grass--you won't see a lot of photo-real blades. I have to play with all the various noise types available in Cinema--there are so many. So far I've used the fairly simple ones for grass, I'ld bet some of the more exotic ones would be even better. Maybe not...
STRAT
yup. i also dissagree and argue points made in posts to bring out all sides of the topic. the more we know the better
rivoli
i generally use more than one map for achieving good looking grass. usually a mix of different bitmaps which have different uv channels, dimensions and coordinates. and a fair amount of post processing work in ps. Brian Cassil
That's a great tex map! Thanks Strat! I can't wait to try it out. Although I'm leaning toward doing as much of the landscaping as possible in photoshop now, but for animaitons it could be great!
