MR manager

Hi all,

When network rendering, it's best to place the manager on a computer that does not have to reboot very often (i.e. a 'non-'workstation).

Can this be a slower machine (pIII) without losing speed for rendering??

How much does it matter in time?? Any specs or tips?

I've got backburner running on an old dual 600mhz with 512mb ram that just sits in the corner and runs the manager. It's been running without a glitch or a slowdown for maybe 2 years now. I just keep it updated and reboot every month or so.

My understanding is that the manager program only dishes out the jobs, so your biggest bottleneck is network speed, not cpu speed.

I found a long time ago that net rendering ran much more stable when the manager was running on a machine that wasn't also trying to render. Which I'm assuming is more of a ram issue, which large jobs would eat thru and not leave any extra for managing jobs.

That's my experience anyway.

Colin
