How much time does it take you to build an interior scene?

My question is how long does it take you to build an interior scene. For example an office, with like 20 workspaces, a meeting room, a cafeteria, lobby... I need to know so I can give my clients an approximation of the time I will be taking to make the project. Not the rendering time, just the whole process before that. Like making walls, windows, doors, desks, a little modeling because most the furniture I already have modeled. I guess we all make different type of scenes like the ones that look amazing with so much detail, the ones in the middle, that look good but could look better, and the simple ones. How long would you say it takes to make each.

I think this question is more about you and your abilities, and about the quality level the client is looking for.

 

We may take 20-40 hours to produce an image and we may take 80-120. Maintaining as many pre-made assets will help speed things along, but you will be hard pressed to create a highly detailed image on short order.

 

You are also dealing with who is designing? If it's you, then how fast is your process? If it is them, how quickly can you read and interpret a construction set of drawings?

 

It can be hard either way or it can be easy, but I think laying out your process in advance is your best bet for satisfying the client. Look at the project details, look at the deadline for them, and create a plan that they understand for the highest quality image you can in that amount of time. I don't think setting up a scenario where you say "it'll be 20 hours for a rough one, 60 hours for an alright image, or 120 for a good one." That just doesn't seem like good business to me.
