xjapanese
Hi Guys, My 3ds max 2014 can't open any of the files I have saved while working the previous day.I have save more than 20 versions while working and neither of them would open. I didn't get any errors while saving and no errors when trying to open just shows "loading"that stays forever. Please help. Thanks
tonybishop
go to documents, autodesk 3ds max folder autoback there you will about 5 setup of your backup's but these will be over-written if you started a new scene or object, you always save your backup of your file by using the plus + this is the incremental saves side note You should regularly back up and archive your work. One convenient method is to save incremental copies of your scenes. This method creates a history of your work process.
xjapanese
Hi Tony, I did try the autoback same story.I make a copy every 5 min myself but the thing is that since I don't get a mistake I don't test the copies I have saved so now I am still trying back copies and non of them would open I am tired of these 3ds max shity problems.. tonybishop
you don't get any errors when you open your files, have you tried with a fresh scenes and merging the old scene with the new one?

xjapanese
Hi Tony, that didn't work but I tried again one of the files just straight open command and after 47 min it did open unexpectedly..which is good news as I will try to save selected all objects and combine in new scene though I have still now explanation what is causing the problem.. So it was a good that I decided to wait for that long I guess..it should be a loading issue and 3ds max paths story that never ends .. Still really appreciate the help and suggestions!! Regards, Nik
tonybishop
maybe it not max but your system? have you added the lastest hot fixes and patch from autodesk, have you defragged your hard drive(s) Don't forget max can be very debilitatingon even the fastest computer, try merging one object at a time i have said on of the other thread the other day, maybe then you mite come across the problem
xjapanese
Yes Tony, I have tried it on heavier files that this one opens them easily even now and all of them saved and using the same parts of the hard. Yes I will follow that and study the issue again carelfuly..Thanks
tonybishop
maybe you should not save it as the same path but give it a new path name well that is what michele bousquet and Steve Nelle say, maybe that is causing the problem
xjapanese
yes I assume that is the reason ..I will from now on always use new path
tonybishop
don't forget i am just speculating you could always throw it on the autodesk community and get them to look at the file
akshayarora
I think your file need a cleaner to clean macro scripts . If they exists in file it takes hours in saving or opening the file , Just up to my knowledge
tonybishop
not sure if this is what he means? Problem: The filesize of scenes suddenly increases dramatically. This slows down the workflow since every manual-save and autobackup-save takes long and it fills your fileserver with maxfiles that are very big http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/cleaner
Scott Dombrowski
Is it possible that you have some complex mesh modifier, like a boolean on a big terrain or something like that? I've had occasions where re-opening a file causes that modifier to be re-calculated. If it took a long time the first time you did it, it'll take just as long when you open the file again. Once it opens, try collapsing it to a editable poly, save it, and re-open it. That fixed the long load time issue I had.
Tommy L
The cause could be many things. First things I would ask is if you made any network changes? Like new drive letter assignment? That would mean all the yesterdays files would hang looking for maps. Another possibility would be the motion track glitch which is a PIA for 3ds Max: http://forums.cgarchitect.com/35748-max-file-grew-too-big-pls-help-12.html
xjapanese
Hi Guys, I haven't still diagnosed the reason for that though I rebuild from scratch.Still I believe is paths issue there is a point where not assigning one path for all textures could lead to that problem. Akshaya I don't think it the script will help I have used it in other cases, here the files size is normal. Tom: No I haven't made any changes working all they saving copies and next day non of them opens.. Scott: no no complex modifiers involved but it is good to know that is possible too... Thanks Guys anyway! For sure I will not use many paths in the future though I knew that was not a good workflow..
