Yet another Challenge

I have a challenge.

I call this challenge "CLIFF HANGER" , the idea is to build a structure from the side of a cliff, or

or a structure joining the two sides of a very steep crevice in a cliff.

rules & limits:

1- The structure can be anything.. house, building, statue, restaurant.. etc.

2- The structure must be buildable, and in real materials. (steel, wood, plastic, glass)

3- The structure must be accessible.

4-The most important rule in this exercise is not to interfere with the landscape, or vegetation

In any way, they must stay in tact.. you can't even bore a hole in the ground to fasten your

structure.. it must be free standing but not give way.

I will supply the model of the cliff, & crevice & veggies, and location of the structure on the cliff.

:0. If accepted as an idea for a challenge.

Some might think this is too complicated.. but the structure can ba as simple as you like..

or as complicated as you like..

Hi nichcrhis,

Pls do continue to think about this. Imho the basic idea is usefull and fun, but I'm not sure how to turn it into a visualisation challenge.

Here are some Q for you that can help me out:

- Is your proposal about the design, the structure, the visualisation, the representation of the site, or all of them?

- How long should each step in the design/visualisation process take? (Important because less people will compete when too many steps or too large ones)

- What kind of restrictions can we make to aid the design? (e.g. Not having to choose between bar, house, concerthall etc. will prevent loosing time and number of entries / Will a camera-setup be delivered too / What about atmosphere, lighting?)

Hi nisus,

Well I was hoping that people would be interested in coming up with their own ideas(solutions)

to the problem of "wedging" or "dropping" a building into a hole so to speak, as a completely

different scenario for a building.. and I was also very interested in seeing what solutions people would bring to various building types.. on the same site, with the same properties (the wedge).

Yes indeed the project must be quick.. to run through all the concept->design/structure->model->render steps.

I'm guessing that most people would only be able to contribute 1 evening of their time, per week. amounting to aprox. 16- 20 hrs. over the course of a month.

So to accommodate this short time the challenge so to speak is "THE WEDGE", so that the building must 'clearly' convey the impression of being wedged..

The definition of "wedged" in websters is:

a- To force or press (something) into a narrow space: CRAM.

b- To force one's way into or through.

c- To separate or force apart.

d- To become wedged (stuck).

To sum this up the definite feeling of discomfort, and displacement, or forced state, or imposed situation, or being out of place all arise from the word wedged.

I would say all of them.

As for deliveries:

1-A full model of the site will be supplied: and textured, with environment.. from me.. in various formats.

2-Yes the camera viewpoint will also be supplied. (I don't know wether to make this an internal view.. or an external view at the structure).

3-As for atmospherics.. that is up to the individual.. but I will not be supplying any.

4-As for lighting I'm not sure (because of item 2).

5- As for the type of structure I will leave it open for now, and could be put to a vote.

I hope this helps a little in reducing the scope of the challenge.
