thomascoote
Well, another day another Max issue... Had this problem for a while and not come across anything like it before. In menus, such as the save dialog or when loading a bitmap into a material, Max will often freeze and becomes completely unresponsive. No amount of time will unfreeze it, you have to force quit. Obviously, I load a lot of bitmaps into my scenes so this can get pretty damn annoying. It seems to be completely random when it occurs also. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks again. Nicolai Bongard
This may be a stupid question, but are you sure it is not just autosaving? Autosaving takes a while on most of my files, and when you are in some dialogue boxes sometimes pressing esc doesnt do the trick to cancel the autosave. thomascoote
This may be a stupid question, but are you sure it is not just autosaving? Autosaving takes a while on most of my files, and when you are in some dialogue boxes sometimes pressing esc doesnt do the trick to cancel the autosave. That was my first thought, but it does it even if an autosave isn't due. Also, when it does autosave when I'm in a file menu it will start responding again when the save is finished. I can walk away from the machine for an hour, come back and if this bug has occurred it will still not respond.
Nicolai Bongard
Then i am not sure what the issue could be. You may want to post what version of max you use, in case someone else has the same problem. Good luck!
thomascoote
Oh of course, my bad. Max 2015, unsure how to check what service pack - all legit and license by company I should add.
Josef Wienerroither
SP should be listed in the about box too ( Help->Autodesk Product Information->About 3ds Max ) But the whole problem seems to come from some disappearing network path, you got somewhere in your maps or path settings. Such delays are well known in the windows world if network drives etc... are no longer valid Check for missing maps in "File->Asset Tracking" which point to some non existing network paths. Additionally you can check your map search paths ( Customize->Configure User Paths->External Files ) and your material editors for entries to a now nonexisting network path
