TomD_Arch
I have been working with a set of purchased hdri lighting skies from a good and reputable source. In the middle of tweeking a scene the other day all of I noticed the .exr was not lighting the way i imagined it should. I was a cloudy ski at dusk, so to see if I was correct I switched to a bright blue sky with blazing sun. all grey background. I went and opened one of the pre-made scenes and it was working fine. I have uninstalled 3ds max and re-installed thinking maybe some file became corrupt somewhere and for whatever reason 3ds max wasn't processing the .exr correctly. That was unsuccessful. I am using mental ray. Does anyone have any ideas??? I about ready to reformat my hard drive and re-install everything.
TomD_Arch
So when you are loading the .exr file and the color correction box comes up at some point it got turned on. I just noticed this this morning after trying your idea about loading the .hdr file. I went back to the .exr and sure enough color correction was ticked on. I turned it off and it seems to be working. I want to do a few other model tests, but I think I can say with out any hesitation this was the problem anyone that can confirm this would have caused such an issue? So more important, if color correction is turned off, by default in 3ds max out of the box, why did uninstalling and reinstalling the program not clear that change and set if back? Is there some setting deep in the registry or an .ini file somewhere that doesn't get deleted when you uninstall 3ds max? That doesn't seem logical to me. Nicolai Bongard
Because you continued in a max file that had a certain set of settings?

Nicolai Bongard
That does sound pretty strange.
