3DS Max 2016 viewport/sketchup import weirdness

Hey guys,

I'm having a very strange problem with max 2016. I'm importing a fairly large (though not huge) Sketchup model and all of the geometry is coming in absolutely fine, but if I move or delete it, a ghost of it is left in the viewport (almost as if it's on a frozen layer) that cannot be selected, edited, moved, anything. It literally does not exist in the scene.

I've tried then merging the geometry in from a max file, but it also merges in the "ghost" of the geometry with it. I've tried collapsing various bits down to one mesh, and this has the effect of making only certain parts appear as a ghost (the cladding, for example).

I've updated my graphics drivers, and that seems to have mitigated but not entirely fixed the problem.
