adamsargeant
Hi all. After some advice on why the 2 shower screens on the right hand side are almost acting like magnifying glasses. They are simple planes created in 3DS with a simple Vray glass texture applied. Ignore lighting for now, needs amending. Just need advice on why the glass results are non realistic. image upload no resize Thank you,
notamondayfan
Could be IOR in the material, glass thickness, or even smoothing groups / geometry problems.
adamsargeant
I can't check IOR at the minute, but the glass is just a plane so no actual thickness.. Should the glass actually be a 10/20mm deep box 'object' with the glass texture applied to the entire object?
jasperjanssens
If you just use a plane, the rays will be bent once upon entering the glass layer. In a normal glass pane (with thickness) the rays are bent upon entering and then 'unbent' (bent in the other direction) when leaving the glass. You can see what i mean in thiis google image: http://www.infoplease.com/images/ESCI114REFRAC001.gif This means that in the first case the rays are traveling in the bent direction far longer & never 'unbent' which means you get a distorted image. I always use glass with thickness for better realism. You can use glass as a plane, but then you need to set the ior to 1, which means the rays don't get bent. Will give this a go when i get home. As well as getting rid of those hideous Green shampoo products
adamsargeant
It was the IOR. I replaced the single plane with a 10mm object and altered the Fresnal to 1.5. Result is more realistic and i have posted final image to the gallery. Thanks for all help.
