darkodobric
I'm having problems with vray. All the stuff I render appears very dark, bothers me for several months without a solution. So I made two renders one with mental ray, another vray so the difference is obvious. Is there any additional setting I need to adjust in vray so that it appears as bright as with mr. Is it gamma? Anyone? I need clues of settling this .....
Francisco Penaloza
You need to spend some time reading the manual and following some basic tutorials from Chaos group. Without any information from you scene setup it is a shoot and mis trying to tell you what you need to do. Maybe you don't have lights, maybe you need more lights, or maybe you need to adjust your exposure, or color correction setting in your V Ray buffer, if you are using it at all. If you are using V RAy 3 and Max 2015 or 2016 you don't need to worry about gamma. everything is setup already, do not follow that rabbit hole
darkodobric
These are settings I use....and the scene...with lights....everything is on default...both vray and mentalray....I understand what you propose.....I was careful with manual of chaos group...but still my vray renders are always dark....anyone who is doing something in vray....I copy ...and still he's got it all right, and I end up having dark image....even with twice the multiplier on lights or with additional lights ....sometimes I add 2 more lights with multiplier of 200 ...that just slows my render with minimal...3ds max 2015 and vray 3.07. Any suggestions of where to seek the solution....I am a beginer, but my humble conclusion is that chaos group manual might not be too good..or too detailed...I guess they are assuming my experience is 2+ years or something which I don't have
Francisco Penaloza
I meant V Ray settings,, and light settings. Chaos group manual is actually pretty good compared to other software, I remember when I started learning I got up and running after a few pages. Are you using GI at all?? do you have exposure in your camera?? for what I see in your environment effect windows, you are not using exposure. darkodobric
When using GI and exposure control effect is minimal, and the effect is just on those primitive objects. However, I see the background is the problem, jpg image of background looks the same original, and rendered with mr, while rendered with vray it appears that dark. With HDR image I am getting this problem too, so it seems the background is problematic. Is there a way to adjust a light level of background in vray. Cuz I dont see it. Global lightning level multiplier in Environment and Effects still doesnt influence the background, just the objects. That and every background I use always renders too dark. I have no idea where to find lighning tutorials for vray... those I found even mastering vray from grant warwick...he doesn't explain lightning
Stephen Thomas
Looks like you're using a Vray Physical Camera, I suggest you take a look at how to adjust the exposure settings or simply uncheck the exposure box to make it appear like standard camera for now.
