Tim Saunders
Can someone help me translate some verbiage to use when setting up my v-ray physical camera to match the specs of the camera used in the video/photography? I am lining my shots with footage captured from the Inspire 1 (X3) camera. I was able to get the focal length in the files data which is 35mm. However, the film gate is not listed. I found these details on DP review. The Inspire 1's camera system, dubbed the X3, features a Sony EXMOR 1/2.3-inch type sensor with an f/2.8 20mm equivalent lens. The lens uses 9 elements in 9 groups, and contains an aspherical element, along with anti-distortion and UV filters. The X3 is capable of capturing 12MP JPEG and DNG Raw files and offers three capture modes including single shooting, burst shooting (3/5/7 fps options), and time lapse. Video capabilities include HD and UHD 4K (4096 x 2160) recording at 30 fps Does anyone know if any of those numbers translates to the film gate (mm) I should be entering in my v-ray camera's parameters? Tim Saunders
It seams I may have figured out a match. I took the 2.3-inch =comments from the quote and converted that to MM (58.42mm). Now my camera is matching much better. not perfect, but much better.
Ernest Burden III
Welcome to the wormhole. Camera matching should be easy. Should be. Isn't always. There is a great tool in Cinema4D to mach a camera, I use it all the time, from full scene work to furniture I have to build.
Tim Saunders
Thanks. I got the still preview lined up quite well. We'll see how things go when I import an animated camera.
Corey Beaulieu
I don't know your film gate exactly, but the specs say a 20mm is a 35mm equivalent so you are looking at a zoom factor of 1.75. You can leave the film gate alone and just use the zoom factor parameter with this information. beyond that, Max 2015 and higher have a tool called Perspective Match that may help line things up more accurately and when used in tandem with the 2D zoom for your virewport, you should be able to get a really nice match. I usually try to rough the camera in with a google earth image on a plane that is oriented and scaled properly to the building I am matching, but the perspective match tool should work regardless.
