Hi,

This is my WIP uni project. I am using 3ds max 6 mental ray for the lighting. This is my first time using mental ray. I feel the scene is very blur and not realistic. Please help me to firgure out what the problems with my settings. How to set a good lighting with fast speed as this is an animation? The sky is just temporary render.

I am using 1 mr spotlight and 1 skylight and and logorithmic Exposure control with 50 brightness, 60 contrast.

C&C are welcome

if you wanna use photons :

1.

for speed you should optimise your photonspread (nicely covering the whole scene)

then you can use very low Fgather settings and have faster rendertimes but still have good looking renderings.

make sure you can control the radius (so make sure your units AND systemunits are set up ok)

2.

you need to loose the skylight and replace it with a normal flipped glowing sphere.

(will keep the photons from shooting into infinity = very time consuming)

you could also try whitout photons (only Fgather), then you need not alot of changes... but you will have less GI effect on your shadow parts in your scene

i donno about the blur problem, need to see the max file for that, this could be alot of things ...

if you really wanne do a long animation you should consider using max 7 and the texture baking in Mray
