MongoMan
I have a tiny render farm setup (3 systems) it has always worked well with no problems on max 6. But when I switched to max 7 It corrupts everything rendered across the lan (avi's mov's etc wont play) I have done several tests and rechecked I have everything set up properly .I was wondering if any other max 7 users have had this problem on thier networks?. If so do they know the soloution to it. thanks
abicalho
Instead of rendering a MOV or AVI with network render, you should render it as targa, png or other file format. Then, when it's done you load them all in the Ramplayer and save as an AVI or MOV. Hope it helps, Alexander
MongoMan
Thanks , that certainly is a good work around as net renders in max7 dont corrupt stills. I havent used ram player much at all this a good excuse to become familiar with it. Its still interesting as to why this net render of avi's etc works for me in vers 6 and not 7.. I like the convenience of a quick look at an animation without double handleing it. Although your solution isn't that much more work. cheers
abicalho
Well, for one you cannot "network render" an AVI. Only 1 system can process an AVI file, which pretty much nulifies the concept of "Network" rendering. Second, AVI is codec based, so if you choose a bad codec or have problems with it, you're in trouble. Rendering to sequence allows you to generate any type of AVI, at any codec, any size, any time. I myself would love to see the ability to network render AVIs removed from the app - it just doesn't make sense. But that's me. Alexander
MongoMan
I ve sort of lost what you mean.. by network render of an avi I would have backburner 2 running on another system and choose the net render option, In file type I would choose avi "uncompressed" or cinepak or whatever and submit the job to the manager/server system , it would then produce in the background from the other system an avi, the obvious bonus was that I didnt tie up the system I was modelling off waiting for the render to happen.I could do a quick every 10 frame test render and be able to get a feel for how the final product might look. There was never a problem doing this in max6 but setting up the same net render from max 7 the resulting avi when opened in say media player would say "C00D1199: Cannot play the file" (a problem with the codec) I really wanted to know if any other max7 users had this problem or if it was my system setup or i was missing a codec. Personally I think removing this feature from the app would slow down the work flow for alot people . The feature is handy for the reasons i previously stated, but that just me thanks again.
