FBX imported object problem with materials

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I have downloaded a free bed model and I have imported it (as fbx) into my scene. I am using mental ray and although in my viewport is looking great, it shows up like corrupted in the rendered image. Please have a look at my attatchment and give me your advice.

*I haven't applied UV mapping in this image. However, I tried and the result was the same

sometimes geometry get corrupted when export or import to 3D Max.

Try this, select the geometry and apply a edit mesh modifier, do not right click and transform, please the edit mesh in the modifier stack. if problem still you can place 2 normal modifier in top. when mesh is fixed, you can collapse everything if you like.

you can also select all edges and under edges sub object, select auto edge.

Have I done something wrong? I have just put 3 modifiers. One "edit mesh" and two "normals modifier". Still no result as you see.

In between, I have found the solution. I have exported the bed as DWG and re-imported as DWG. This does the job but then you have too apply materials' UV (while in the FBX you just drag and drop the material and it's ready to go). There must be an easier solution

I think the problem can be that when modeling this bed, turbo smooth was used or any similar depending of the 3d software, then when exported it didn't translate right.

One easy fix is check the smoothing groups in the FBX importer for Max. The the geometry should display fine and render fine, still the geometry won't be very smooth, you can place a turbo smooth or smooth modifier in top and that should work.

Tried here and it work fine.
