jamesgallagher
Hey CGArchitects! I have been looking around for grass/foliage/tree packs for awhile now and was curious if anyone had any recommendations for 3ds max (VRay/Corona). I've had my eye on Vizpark's Real Grass but can't seem to find any solid opinions on it. I mainly want grass, and maybe a few trees added in if the price is right. Thanks! Jason Matthews
I have the Forest Pack Pro (http://www.itoosoft.com/forestpack.php) plugin for Max and various types of grasses from multiple sources. You can download the free version of Forest Pack and it works just fine. The free version does have limitations as stated when you use it. Check out their selection of content (trees, grass flowers, etc). Their HQ Grass is very nice. I also use iGrass (http://rendering.ru/ru_en/models/igrass/igrass-vol1.html). There is a lot of variety here. Lastly, if you want a stupid easy plugin for grass without having to use models, then check out Autograss (http://www.happy-digital.com/). Not as much variety here, but lots of potential.
Amen
I think Forest Pack is a must. I would not want to go back working without it. We just bought Laubwerk plants. Their plants are a little bit more expensive, but you get so much mor with just one PlantKit. 10 tree species, all have different ages and each has a 3d model for summer, autumn, winter and fall. All trees were modelled with the help of botanists and they work well with forest pack. And no, I do not work for them :-)
Andres Saarnak
I bought Vizpark PLANTS Complete yesterday (black Friday deal, -33%). I believe with GrowFX I can generate virtually unlimited variations. I haven´t tested these yet, unfortunately, so I can´t give you any info on their quality. JWEST
I have both Vizpark's grass and trees and they are awesome, they come with Forest Pack Pro presets too which makes life easier.
jamesgallagher
I appreciate all the feedback. Vizpark is still having their sale on so I Might buy the grass. I'm now torn on buying Forest Pack Pro and GrowFX now too.
Andres Saarnak
Forest Pack Pro is very good. I have used Multiscatter in the past, but kind of liked the Forest more, although they are pretty similar. Forest has presets, too, but somehow I have never used them. There should be a lot of videos showing both and what they are useful for. If you are fine using something else to scatter your grass, then there´s not much point buying another one to do this. I have been using Corona Scatter and have been pretty pleased with it. Will the free version of Forest Pack give me a good idea of the features available in the Pro version? Andres Saarnak
I have been using Corona Scatter and have been pretty pleased with it. Will the free version of Forest Pack give me a good idea of the features available in the Pro version? http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/FORESTPACK/Lite+and+Pro Here you can find differences between pro and lite version. Most features are available and Lite version is useable even in production if a terrain is flat ("Scattering over uneven surfaces" is unavailable for Lite). Forest Pack random tint by object and by item are essential for me and they are easy to use. I haven´t used Corona Scatter, so I can´t compare them.
