chavespunk
First step in a freelance career ArchViz I worked about 5 years in ArchViz industry, I have acquired many skills in my workflow, but had to leave the office where I worked because of college. I am launching me on a freelance basis to keep me, but I do not have contacts to work. What would you do in my place? I'm sending several emails presenting my work to architecture branch companies and interior design, but it is the right way to bring to market? Thank you, good holiday season to all
kharjak
Emails can be easier to ignore, but are still effective. If your work is really good they can't ignore you. I find the best way is to put photo prints in their hands. Print your best work and drop the photos off at interior design/decorating places, along with your contact info/website. I'm a fan of glossy 8x10 photo paper prints. Usually they cost $3-4 each, but try a few different printers locally. Here in the U.S., CVS pharmacy has very good quality prints, better than a lot of the discount online printing places. Worst case scenario you can usually just pick the photo prints back up in a few days. More often than not, they'll call you and want to know about pricing & time frame. Ask them to send you CAD drawings before you give an estimate. Also look in your area for home builders & remodeling contractors, cabinet makers, draftsmen/home designers etc. Even if they aren't in a position to use your services, chances are they know at least 3 people who can. Don't be afraid to ask! Make sure they know and understand that the value your service brings is so much greater than the money they'll pay you for the rendering. Why use renderings? Avoid confusion, surprises, mistakes, headaches, unnecessary changes, wasted time, etc. by using renderings in the process. What is peace of mind worth? Don't bother explaining any of the technical stuff, but if you do have to explain things, use very simple language. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Good luck out there Lucas!
