Displayport to DVI or DP to HDMI to DVI or DP to DVI??!!

Hello!

 

I've been searching the web for a while now and I'm having a tough time getting my head around upgrading to a 4k monitor with my Nvidia GTX660 ti: it's only got 2 DVI ports (and another covered couple slim ones - not HDMI - not sure what they are).

 

I read on the manufacturer's site that my card will not be able to display 4k at 60Hz unless I use a DisplayPort.

 

I'm interested on getting the 27" Dell P2715Q, which not only has a DP port but also a mini DP port. So maybe I thought I could plug it in with either one one both solutions:

 

- A mini DP to female DVI (like this one)- connected to a normal DVI to DVI on the video card. But will I still be able to exploit 4k at 60hz?

 

- Ideally a DP to DVI cable, which I cannot find.

 

Any ideas or links on which way is the best way to go?

It says:

 

Display connectors: One Dual Link DVI-I, One Dual Link DVI-D, One HDMI, One DisplayPort

 

So guess the two covered slim ones on your gpu are your hdmi and your displayport. Look in your manual or search the web.

 

If it is a displayport you can put a wire (there are differences in quality between cables, get a decent one) between your gpu and your uhd monitor, set the display settings on your monitor on displayport 1.2 and voila, you have uhd at 60 hz.

 

(some extra info: the older hdmi 1.4 can display uhd, but only at 30 hz, the newer hdmi 2.0 can display uhd at 60 hz)

 

If it was me, I would not get a uhd smaller than 30" or 32". I would prefer bigger.
