Bugga_Guy
I been reading alot of stuff of VRAY in CGArch's discussion groups and from the examples that people are showing, it is quite amazing. I was just wondering if the majority of people are using the V-ray advanced, basic or free plugin? Is it easy to use? How are the rendering times like? I am consider using it, but I just want to know what people think of this first before I try it out. Thanks!
skogskalle
hey dude! Im a new Vray user. bought the advanced version 2 months ago. Havent used the Basic version, but the differens between the free and the advanced is huge. Faster renders, better materials, Vray lights etc etc. Why dont you download the free version, as well as the demo of the advanced version and do a couple of testrenders yourself?! Then you can see if you think the difference is worth the cash... I havent used any other GI renderers so I dont know if its easier or harder to learn than others, but I do think its rather easy to use. you can render most scenes in a matter of minutes with very low GI and AA settings. This is great for testrenders. how long final renderings take differs alot from scene to scene, but I think Vray is considered to be fast compared to other renderers. cullen
I'm glad that you asked this question. I'm currently using MAX 6 and about to upgrade to 7. I'm really interested to see what all the feed back is. Kalle, is there a lot of difference in the way that you use materials?
skogskalle
cullen - what do you mean? I dont think there are any differences between Vray in max6 and max7... The material settings for a Vray material differs from standard materials, but that shouldnt be a prob I think... There are many settings which I havent got a clue of what they do, and Im sure my materials would look better and render faster if I knew. but if you get stuck you can always post a question in the vray forum at chaoticdimension.com, those guys know it all, and are really helpful too... cullen
My question about materials was asking about special settings. Are there different setting that you have to use on your materials. Similar to how you have to use different kinds of materials for MR. I've downloaded the vray free version to play around with it but since I've installed it, the majority of my materials in my library are all black. This may need to be moved as to start a different thread but thats what I was meaning. Thanks, crw
