Ernest Burden III
I find that if you wear a bright orange vest, people will tend to assume you are doing some sort of official business and leave you alone. Don't forget the clipboard and nod method
komyali
Of course! When I watch this first time couple years ago I was thinking this is CG. Now first comment tell and pure logic tell me this is fake as hell!
Derek Forreal
so far I've only used fake photos from Google Earth and Apple 3D grabbed on my ipad. slightly off topic but still relevant i feel. is Google Earth imagery enough to form a proper 3d model using photogrammetry? the reason i ask is that i always assumed that it wouldn't work because effectively in Google Earth you're just panning around a single shot and not actually creating images with a different perspective in each. i'd never used Google Earth (just stuck to Google Maps as it doesn't require installation) but just installed it now as i was curious to see if the map updated as it was panned, but it seems to work the same as Maps. i've been using Photoscan to scan sites (small scale residential in my case) and it works really well. if i could use Google Earth, or Maps, to add aerial views that would be a big bonus. Chris MacDonald
My dad's just bought a drone (DJI Inspire 2) and fitted it with a gimbal/gopro and the footage from it is absolutely stunning, though we've yet to use it for anything other than a "practice". What surprises me is just how smooth the footage can be from a drone - I always assumed that all of the promo videos you see has had the footage stabilized, but I can promise you it isn't! Devin Johnston
I use Boujou to matchmove and After Effects to composite, so far I've been very successful.
Rich O
Autodesk Matchmover, with varying degrees of success. Cool, that's where I was headed. How does it work with V-ray cameras do you know, as I'm on Max 2015 (or are you using Max 2016 with its V-ray compatible default camera)
Stephen Thomas
Has anyone tried Autodesk Memento? I had a bunch of aerial photos from a recent project and uploaded them to see the results. Not too bad, and the version on my desktop is much sharper, I assume this one is optimized for the web interface. Feel free to have a look. http://memento.autodesk.com/projects/bunnahabhain-distillery

Matchmover has been the biggest problem.

My results with Memento thus far have been less than stellar using backyard methods however: Note the mutant growth on the side of the seal statuette. The photos I took looked pretty good I thought so not sure what happened, one side came out okay! Edited March 23, 2016 by Richard7666
