Brian Cassil
Since the Maxtreme driver for Max 7 hasen't come out yet I was wondering what the best video driver to use would be. It is getting really difficult to navigate some of my larger scenes and I've tried open GL and directX 9 and neither are working very well for me. Chris Johnson
Brian I've had problems with DirectX 9.0x drivers. I would get max7 crashing on me every 30 minutes. For instance it would also crash when right clicking on the viewport label. And I have a new nvidia 6800 GT video card. Strange. Therefore I use OpenGL, and frankly the performance is barely better then my Quadro2 (Elsa Quadro DCC)(vintage 2001-2002 model). For OpenGL I had to use the drivers that came with the card, I couldn't use the latest Nvidia drivers, since my card drives 2 moniters. I thought that a 6800GT being 3 generations newer than my quadro DCC would be pretty fast. Well I was mistaken. So now I'm missing my maxtreme drivers, and my quadro. I'm planning on getting a newvideo card when I get a new system here soon. Chris J.
vertexART
Brian, I had similar problems with OGL drivers as Chris had with his DX9 drivers. Max crashing in irregular intervals, most often when I select the object which material map is displayed in viewport.. ? Strange, so I switched to DX9, and I had ATI900064MB. OK, it was a slow card, but it was Max 5! Now I have ATI9600PRO with 256MB, still using DX drivers. No problems whatsoever so far, on Max 7, yet when starting the program, display shows parts from previous file opened, for a few secs.. That's it, when it loads, it runs very well, even with hipoly scenes. BTW, you didn't mentioned your card, or specs Hope it helps!
Brian Cassil
I should have mentioned the card I'm using: Nvidia Quadro FX 1000 Although I do suffer crashes in Max, my primary concern is to improve the performance while Max is running. I really wish Discreet would work a little more closely with Nvidia so that the Maxtreme drivers could be released to coincide with Max upgrades. Hazdaz
I also have an FX 1000 card and with MAX7 I've been using DX9.0. I really have not had a ton of problems with it crashing or anything like that, but I wish they would hurry up already getting the new drivers out, cuz I am sure that with MAXtreme drivers it would be even faster. I actually think that MAX7 with DX9 is about as fast as MAX6 was with the old MAXtreme drivers. I can't verify that, but it does feal more responsive than before.
