richardainslies
we just upgraded to this recently. Can't find the option to control secondary bounces (lightcache-etc). Also with some materials, the sub divs setting is locked and I can't seem to find a place to enable editing.
Andres Saarnak
Haven´t used Vray for a while now, but what I´ve read about 3.3, you can render with basically default settings and get good results. You don´t have to fiddle with material or light subdivs or any of that anymore. Only 2 parameters you need to change are Noise threshold and Max aa subdivs. There´s a thread and a cheatsheet on Vray forum about this (cheatsheet- http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_mWGCSqPM3o/VpqPVUeuaRI/AAAAAAAAQQA/Tph4qexkk_U/s1600/cheatSheet_Sp3.jpg)
michaelgolden
In vray 3.3, if you go to render setup, v-ray, global DMC, you will see a checkbox labeled, "use local subdivs". by default this is unticked. and as a result, you cant set some subdivs, and other subdivs that you can set, lights, etc, have no effect. Vlad & Co. have basically implemented a system where the renderer knows better than you where it needs more samples, and will adjust accordingly. you just set overall noise threshol, sampling rate and image sampler. ive found it works wonderfully overall. if you want to go back to setting subdivs everywhere, tick that check box and it goes back to how it was. in gi, however, you should have choices for your primary and secondary engine, and assuming youre not using brute force, you should be able to adjust the settings for gi map quality in irradiance map and light cache.
