charlieinolas
Hi, Some things are not clear to me in this aspect. Is this possible so the laptop read all the textures directly from my desktop computer so I'd not have to copy all the textures to same folders and subfolders locations onto my laptop ? (Many files are also on separate partitions on my desktop so it gets really complicated if I'd want to make all same folders/drives on the laptop.) I tried to change all the files under 'asset tracking' to 'resolve path to unc location' but nothing happens. I must be doing something wrong. Could anyone help me out and give me a hint how to set it properly? thanks Edited February 22, 2016 by charlieinolas
Nicolai Bongard
As far as i know, textures need to have the same path. At my work we store all assets on a server, so all computers can access all the stuff. The network drives are set up to have the same letter (C: , D:, F: etc...) on each workstation , so that when you load a project on whatever computer in the office, all files should be located without any problems. So in theory i guess it should be possible to setup your network drive (on the laptop) to read as the same letter drive on your other computer, thus it should load properly. I am by no means an expert in matters of network setups, so perhaps someone with more knowledge will assist with further input on the subject. charlieinolas
As far as I understand correctly, I'd have to move all the textures files from disk C to some other partition, so I'd be able to map the network drive on the other computer. If it's C drive, it won't work for obvious reasons. But let's leave that - I just tried to do the same thing with backburner, this looks easier as I don't need to move the textures. The problem is that my laptop-server remains idle. I set up two comps on one cable, the Backburner Monitor sees them both. When I click render and send the job to network the window pops up. I type in the IP number of my manager, click connect and I can see both comps with green dot. But when I click 'submit' only the desktop renders... why so ? Any clue? 'Use all servers' is ticked. Backburner server is started on both computers. Edited February 22, 2016 by charlieinolas
