so what's the deal with programs like daz3d? it's free, but looks like you have to buy things like clothing and hair and even bodies.

wondering if anyone is using a program like this for high detailed 3d people that are rigged or can be rigged?

thanks,

Just going to bump this thread. I'm having a look at it also. I was considering using it to generate people for mid-distance/background models. I do a lot of retail jobs where seated restaurant people are required. This might be an alternative to 3D scanned characters which are quite expensive. Has anyone on here tried to make some usable content with Daz?

Poser looks like a better solution to make custom people, but obviously at a cost. Daz3D seems to be just a drag and drop approach. There are plenty of sci-fi/fantasy resources available for Daz3D, but I'm not sure if there is much that could be applied to Arch Viz?

exactly and here is where DAZ fall apart for our industry.

I used that software a few times to do some Medicine related animations. I am not a Human body modeler, neither have time to create cloths so DAZ fit the bill for me in that regard.

Later trying to use their models for arch Viz, it never worked. First it is really hard to find simple cloth, the girls are way to sexy and men look Hercules no matter what, just in the latest release you can adjust them to look a little more "normal people" but still cloth is a big deal.

Poser will work about the same, tho needless to say Poser will give you way more options for customize the characters and animation.

Both software export a very nice mesh, that is very easy to rig, you can optimize the polygon count too.

There is a similar free software called Makehuman, you can look on that one too. but they look more zoombie than DAZ or Poser.

They all looks better than Autodesk people generator any ways.

I guess if you can find regular cloth or you can design simple cloth for DAZ models, it could work pretty good. But honestly that software is designed for something complete different for what we do.

Our main point of interest is the building/landscaping and not the people. DAZ is right the opposite.

Cool - thanks for your insights Francisco. You are right - they are a bit too sexy for our needs. Sadly there is not much call for Busty Vampire Vixens in my renders :). Mind you the female "Real World" Genesis 3 model and the male equivalent does not look too bad as a base mesh - relatively normal. I couldn't really find much in the way of "normal" clothes to put on them, but I haven't looked very hard yet. I may try starting with a posed base mesh and use Marvellous Designer to put some clothes on.

Daz Studio definitely can produce great realistic humans. Especially with the Genesis 3 base model which you can tweak and adjust to your own needs . It's honestly insane that they give this tool away for free. the latest version even has Iray included. Of course to be usefull for Archviz etc. the FBX export pipeline has to be utilized which works great btw. bringing in skinned and rigged characters pretty good.

I couple of years back did a project using custom bought Daz figures ( to be exact Poser figures - which Daz can import ), blended this custom model onto the genesis base model ( allows for adaptive resolution) and exported that fully rigged and weighted to Max to animate and render. The task was to produce 100 fitness training clips, similar to those below
