rossadam
Hi community, I am an architecture student trying to piece together a workstation for 3D modeling and rendering.i currently have a Dell t7500 48gb ram with quadro 4000 and gtx 760 card. I'm modeling mostly in rhino and revit but do a lot of grasshopper stuff. I would like to update the Gfx card and have the following option : 1) was bequeathed a tesla m2090 2) either get a gtx 960 or 970 depending on what's on sale My question is will the old tesla work with any of the gtx ? Will it help say in GPU rendering using say vray rt,Iray or octane render? Should I stretch my budget a bit to buy a quadro k2200. Thanks in advance for any suggestion. Nikolaos M
Why do you have two cards in your system? The 760 is for gpu rendering?
rossadam
I bought the PC from eBay that comes with the Quadro 4000 and I was given a gtx 760 by my friend. Yeah I used the 760 for GPU rendering. At this moment whenever I run vray rt in rhino, it just crashes. But the GPU rendering in octane is good. Nikolaos M
Maybe the crashing isn't a hardware issue, but has something to do with Vray itself. If you render normally with vray inside Rhino, do you have the same crashes? I am almost certain that the gtx 760 would outperform the old 4000 in viewports. If you really want a good gpu for gpu rendering without spending a fortune, then the gtx 970 would be better than all the professional cards you mentioned in your first post. Jason Matthews
I wouldn't put too much stock in a quadro card, unless you only worked in Revit. The quadro cards are very stable, but quickly are outperformed by the gaming cards. I have a GTX 970 and it is a great card. You can pick up one for just over $300, closer to $350.
