michaelsklnner
hi all, im trying to decide what rendering software i should begin with (im a beginner)i need two specific features that i've already seen embedded in inferior renderers but i coudn't find anything similar ready-to-use on production level renderers (i haven't researched the subject too much yet) a) continuous automated cavity detectioncavity detection using a generic cavity detection intensity filter like in zbrush, including options for separate cavity shading, without manually informing the renderer about the location of the cavities on the objectcontinuously, meaning that if the cavities change, the shading also shifts immediately like in zbrush (cavity shading changes while you are sculpting - you don't need to do anything after you've set the generic cavity detection filter options) b) link material or material attributes to the angle between the eye-object line and the the surface's points' tangentssimply put, imagine a round object shaded differently at the point where you would see your own reflection on it and differently at the edges can i do this with vray?thank you very much
Francisco Penaloza
It depends of what are you trying to archive, most of the "Pro" rendering engines will be able to do that, but most of then may need a pre-setup or a combination of rendering and 3D software features that will give you the final result. For what you explained, Zbrush is a good option, also Mari, Body paint or Substance designer to name a few.You could do the same with V Ray and some gradient controlled by Fresnel or distance, but is that's the case, you could use Mental Ray, Corona, Octane and then the list grows. Many combinations but again it depend what is this for. If you are doing Character modeling, well ZBrush and Mari will be the best choice, or Substance too.
